Llangors Church in Wales Primary School

Curriculum

We have worked with our pupils, parents, staff, governors and community to find out what really matters for the children and young people of Llangors. From this was born our ABC which drives our inspiring and ever evolving curriculum. Sitting alongside our ABC are the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales.

Llangors Vision

Our Curriculum is organised into 6 Areas of Learning.

 Language, Literacy and Communication

This includes reading, writing and oracy skills in English as well as second language Welsh skills. Older pupils at Llangors also have the opportunity to learn French. Young pupils follow Little Wandle phonics to ensure they get of to a flying start in their early reading and writing. LLC is an important elements of ALL learning at Llangors.

Mathematics and Numeracy

This includes the number system, algebra, geometry and statistics. There is a strong focus on mathematical reasoning as well as procedure and skills. We follow the White Rose scheme for Maths. Pupils have daily lessons in M&N as well as learning and applying many skills as part of their Learn Llangors.

Health and Wellbeing

The fundamental components of this Area are physical health and development, mental health, and emotional and social well-being.We use the Jigsaw programme to ensure our pupils have a full and rich Health and Wellbeing curriculum alongside twice weekly PE lessons. Health and Wellbeing is woven into everything we learn and do at Llangors. We have a sports coach who ensures that pupils have regular challenging and enjoyable sports lessons as well as offering a range of after school sports clubs. Pupils from Y3 - Y6 have swimming lessons at our Brecon Leisure Centre.

Expressive Arts

The Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience (Area) spans five disciplines: art, dance, drama, film and digital media and music. Although each discipline has its own discrete body of knowledge and body of skills, it is recognised that together they share the creative process. All pupils at Llangors have the opportunity to have a 'first experience' of learning a musical instrument as a whole class.

Science and Technology

This area of learning nurtures and inspires curiosity. Pupils learn about computation, forces and energy, matter, living things, design thinking and engineering.

Humanities

Pupils learn about history, geography, religion, values and ethics.

Our mornings are spent on skills based learning with a particular focus on English, Welsh, Maths and Numeracy and Digital competencies.

During the afternoons, our pupils follow our Learn Llangors curriculum.

Llangors School Day

Learn Llangors is our own curriculum, designed by our pupils and staff with contributions form governors, parents and our community. It ensures our pupils learn with real purpose and that what they learn both supports our ABC and is embedded in our local area and what we know our pupils want and need to learn. Woven into Learn Llangors are our ABC, the four key purposes of Curriculum for Wales, opportunities to develop Career and Work Related Experience, a developing understanding of Religion, Value and Ethics and a commitment to inclusivity and the explicit teaching of and celebration of diversity.
